The Thing on the Doorstep
Greetings, everyone! I wanted to introduce myself, as I’m the new co-founder of Weather Factory. I love wine and candles and the moon; I hate, primarily, spiders. Follow me on Twitter, if you like.
I’ll be doing as much work as possible around Alexis’s writing and design, so he can focus on colouring the edges of your dreams or feeding off the brine of your mind or whatever it is he puts on his tax form at the end of the year. That means: production, marketing, bizniz, art/visual design and anything else that needs doing.
I’ve leapt at the chance to work on Cultist Simulator, because
a) Lovecraft is RAD! If you can, you know, compartmentalise the whole historical racism/sexism thing;
b) Alexis is the modern Chesterton. I admire his prose like a thief the Koh-I-Noor. And I’ve just left Failbetter where I was producer: the company’s back catalogue is patterned with his fingerprints, so I guess his games are all right too.
There’s also the small matter of Alexis and I being a couple. Running your own studio with your partner is the games industry’s collective dream, so it’ll probably be great for Cultist Simulator‘s production values. It might not be so great for our work/life balance, or our Deliveroo bill. But as the saying goes, faint heart never won loads of awards for the best game ever, or a lifetime of romantic and creative fulfilment. And oh my sisters, oh my brothers: let us not be faint.
