Secret gods live beneath the skin of the world. Five of them meet every year to exchange secrets and agree particular notes of history. Their conversations aren’t for our ears, but even after they’ve gone, their gossip still troubles the earth; the air still prickles with doors.
The place they meet has is named Caer Adar, or Mantiq-ut-Tayr, or Roostinghall. It manifests in different places at different times, but it’s always a border-house with one stair in the waking world and one in dreams. And after the secret gods have met, a select group of mortal guests will visit under a binding truce, to pick through abandoned tidbits of secret knowledge. These events have been called counterparties; they’ve been called symurgies; they’ve been called the embassies of night. No-one comes unwarned, and no-one leaves unchanged.
